First week with the New Companion -- Email from 30 March 2015

This week was pretty good week! We worked hard this week and have a couple of investigators progressing. We should have at least one baptism this next week of general conference. We are working with a couple families right now, and we have a couple people with baptismal dates Named Brian, Jose, Sergio, and Yesica. I don't want to get my hopes up to high but i think that we will have a transfer with a lot of success.

My companion is the man. He is really good at talking to people and relating to them, so I am going to learn a lot about listening this transfer.  For mom, We live in an apartment that is alright. It's not super good but its not the worst place that I have seen in the mission. The ward here is super awesome. We have about 200 members that are attending regularly. The problem here is that there are no leaders. There are not enough Melchizedek priesthood, constantly people are expecting us, as the missionaries to do home teaching. It's a little frustrating at times that the ward expects so much from us that is outside our calling but its alright.

Other than that there isn't much that is going on here. Were working hard, and having fun and the time is flying by. It doesn't feel like I have been out for 8 months yet. I'm trying not to count the time and just focus on baptizing.

Love you all.

UPDATE:  Matt sent this to his mother so I am posting it today:
Also, Elder Hicks was my zone leader for my first three transfers in the mission. The truth is that i have never seen another elder who can show more love for people than him. We did divisions my first halloween here. He is the man.

Also here are some pictures of my apartment.  (Apparently he wanted to show her how clean it is).

Transfers! -- Email from 24 March 2015

Hey,

Elder Gabriaguez and me.
This week has been good. We worked hard with Eder Florez and he went to another area. I received a new companion: Elder Gabriaguez. He seems really cool and I'm going to enjoy my time with him. It's very possible that we could be together for two transfers so I'm looking forward for the time I have to learn from him. I already get along with him!

siga la baca
We have two possibilities to baptize this Sunday but they are just possibilities so I'm not going to worry about it so much. I'm very excited about this time that i have to work with elder Gabriaguez. I think he is going to help me with my Spanish a lot too. This week it started to get a lot colder! The leaves are changing colors and we are starting to get into fall. For once i am not sweating!

Last p day Elder Forez and I went to siga la baca, an all you can eat barbeque place. It was really good. I will send pictures. Thanks for everything and I want to see pictures of the new car! Love you all

My Week -- Email from 2 March 2015

Hey,

My week was pretty good. We taught 26 lessons with a member present and have 3 baptisms planned for the 15th of march. They are daughters of a less active that we are going to try and baptize. The dad is a member and the mom isn't. The girls are named Maria and Estefany. Maria is 25 and is married and has 2 kids. She received the lessons already with the missionaries but didn't feel like she needed to get baptized. Now she has a little more of a desire. Estefany is 19 and never has talked with the missionaries so we have to teach everything but its cool. The only thing that's worrying is that they work in the fair on Sundays but they have been leaving to be at church so that is pretty good.

We are trying really hard here to have success. I hope it happens eventually. Its weird to think that we are almost in fall here. In another month the leaves will change colors and it will start getting cold ( thank heavens). Ive been learning a lot of Spanish and I would say that I am near fluent.

I like the mission and I am doing good here.  I want to do exactly what Jesus wants me to do, but I am having a hard time figuring out what that is sometimes.

I love you guys a lot.

Have a good week. I can't wait to see the kitchen and the house after all of your reno is finished.
